Mrs. Brown’s boys

I must give you what I think is the very best example of Vulgar Comedy on TV. “Mrs. Brown’s boys is an Irish sitcom that contains most components of what is Vulgar Comedy.
Unfortunately all countries are not able to watch the programs via BBC and BBC has also taken away the possibility to see the episodes through YouTube. But for those of you who can, go and see it!

Here is an example though:

And here is one more:

”Comedy” as it used to be in the 1970s – puerile, stock-full of ancient comedy cliches (foul mouthed older women, senile grandparents, effeminate gay men etc etc) relying on swear words and simply unfunny. Very, very poor.

    • It is a formula a lot older then the 1970s. It is in fact the kind of comedy that started in Europe about 100 years earlier then European theatre itself. This is a typical example of the very good popular comedy that is based on peoples rites and feasts in contrast with the upper classes literary comedy based on humorous, witty word-games and irony.
Then what you or anyone else think is funny or not is totally individual. My remark is simply that is probably something with it since it has amused people for thousands of years. And for thousands of years the ruling classes and those who wants to climb in society has looked down on it.

This show is recorded in front of a studio audience in the BBC Scotland building and the ticket to go see it are free from the BBC her ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours/tickets/ ) but you have to act fast to get them because they go very quickly and if you do get them turn up and BBC Scotland’s building at least a hour and a half early because they give out more tickets than what they can seat. You can apply for a maximum, I believe of 4 tickets and there are sent via email and have to be printed off and taken to the studio. I know this because I have been lucky enough to attend a filming of the show. Hope this somehow helps.
